OBITUARY
John M. Galas Jr. of the Town of Poughkeepsie died Friday, October 22,1999 at Castle Point Veterans Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Galas served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1969 to 1972. He was a disabled veteran. John was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed working with all kinds of electronics as a hobby. He attended St.
Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie. Born in New York City on April 29, 1949 to John M. and Catherine Nolan Galas, Sr. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School, Hyde Park, and was a local resident for 50 years. He is survived by his Father, John M. Galas Sr. of T.X.; his Mother, Catherine Galas of Poughkeepsie; four sisters, Jane Selin of Poughkeepsie; June Galas of Scotia, N.Y.; Janet Merritt of Ill.; Joan Tompkins of Holiday, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and his stepmother Jean Galas of Poughkeepsie. Calling hours are Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at Dowling Funeral Home, 43 Fairview Ave., Poughkeepsie. The funeral will be Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. at the Dowling Funeral Home. Father Brinn will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family would be appreciated.
